    Dexter King, son of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and Coretta Scott King, Dies at 62

    Dexter Scott King, 62, the youngest son of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and president of The King Estate, died in Malibu on Monday after a battle with prostate cancer. Mr. King chaired The King Center for Nonviolent Social Change, a non-profit started by his mother, Coretta Scott King, and was President of The King Estate at the time of his death. Leah Weber King, his wife of 11 years, said in a statement, “He battled this terrible disease until the end.

    As with all the challenges in his life, he faced this hurdle with bravery and might.” The third of four children, Dexter King was named after the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, pastored by his father during the 1950’s. He was the brother of Martin Luther King III, Bernice King and Yolanda King (dec.). The author of Growing Up King: An Intimate Memoir, he was seven when his father was assassinated, April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tenn.
