    The Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) will hold a community forum on Tuesday, June 20 at 6:30 PM  at Macon Library (361 Lewis Avenue) to discuss upcoming renovation plans for the library. The 17,968 square foot building, which opened in 1907, will close on Friday, June 30, 2006 for approximately one year, and is expected to reopen in fall 2007.
    Library representatives will be on hand at the forum to answer questions about the renovation and to provide information on alternative library options during the renovation.
    The $2 million renovation will improve the library’s interior and its resources. Generously funded by the New York City Council, Macon Library’s enhancements will include:
    *    Reconfiguration of interior to include new public areas:
    *    Space for a new African-American interest collection
    *    First Five Years reading area – A cheerful area for infants and preschoolers, furnished with age-specialized furniture, learning tools, computers with software for preschoolers and a collection of sturdy board books
    *    New furniture throughout
    *    New heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system
    *    Lighting restoration
    *    Ceiling restoration
    *    Electrical upgrade
    *    New paint throughout

    While Macon Library is being renovated, service will be provided by a BPL Bookmobile parked in front of the library on Mondays and Thursdays from 11 AM to 4 PM starting Thursday, July 6. Library users are also encouraged to visit the following neighborhood libraries:
