“As the first African American woman elected to US Congress Shirley’s legacy continues to inspire countless individuals across the globe reminding us of the power of resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to justice. We celebrate not only her achievements, but also the ideals that she championed equality, access, and the belief that everyone deserves a voice in the political arena. It is our collective responsibility to carry her torch ensuring the progress she fought for continues,” said Consul General Lorenzo Harewood.

“By highlighting the Caribbean’s unique history and ongoing struggles for justice, we honor the international legacy of trailblazers like Shirley Chisholm and ensure diverse experiences contribute to our collective progress,” said Barbara Bullard, President and CEO, Shirley Chisholm Cultural Institute.
