Gail P. Duke’s name to grace affordable Senior Housing Complex in Brownsville
Community, business, faith and political leaders, including Assemblywoman Latrice Walker, helped to celebrate the groundbreaking on Thursday, September 19 for the Gail P. Duke Senior Residence in Brownsville.
Ms. Duke, a member of the Catholic Charities Board, said she was honored to have her name attached to the $143 million affordable housing complex project. “I am humbled. {The naming} will provide meaning to so many people in the Brownsville community. As our Senior community continues to age, living in an adaptive and secure environment is important. “The amenities provided by Catholic Charities minimize the struggle of daily life. I am honored to have my name associated with such a progressive facility.”
The complex is being constructed at 350 Livonia Avenue by Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens — and several private and public partners. It will include backup generator power for cooling, sheltering in place and other emergency needs.
