 Summer 2019 Internship Program at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Today’s the deadline! Over the course of an 8-week session, students will be connected to Navy Yard-based businesses and departments according to career interests, skill sets, and educational background. Must be: an NYC resident or attend an NYC-based college; a college-bound or college-attending student; able to present documentation of the above criteria and if under 18, able to provide working papers (which can be obtained from your school). Opportunities in: Culinary/Hospitality, Media/Communications, Engineering, Manufacturing, Construction, Computer Programming/IT, Office/Administrative, etc. Two sessions are available, either –Monday, June 3 to Friday, July 26, 2019 or Monday, June 24 to Friday, August 16, 2019. All interns commit to a 40-hour work week with a one-hour unpaid lunch break each day and are compensated at $15/hr. Legislative Hearing on Homeownership Crisis Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon St., 2-6pm. FREE. State Senator Velmanette Montgomery, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Assembly Member Tremaine Wright present a legislative hearing on the crisis facing homeowners of color, in neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn. As NYC becomes less and less affordable, seniors and homeowners of color in rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods are especially vulnerable. This hearing will focus on systemic barriers and practices that led to this crisis: Redlining in minority communities; Deed theft; Equity theft; Liens and properties lost due to sewer and water charges; Predatory foreclosures and the Reverse mortgage impact on senior homeownership. Hear from impacted homeowners and foreclosure experts. Oral testimony is by invitation only; written testimony from the public is encouraged and should include recommendations for policy and/or legislative solutions.
