Basquiat: Rags to Riches, Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Pkwy., 7PM, $16 (includes museum adm). U.S. premiere of this American Master/ BBC Studios documemtary chronicling the life and legacy of Brooklyn’s own Jean-Michel Basquiat. The film relates Basquiat’s personal and artistic journey through interviews with his sisters, art dealers, friends, lovers and fellow artists. His art is at the heart of the film, which is followed by a talkback with the filmmakers.

Junior Carnival Parade begins at Kingston Ave. & St. John’s Pl., continues along Franklin Ave. to President St. and ends at the Brooklyn Museum grounds. 9AM-4PM, FREE on parade route, $5 at the museum. The parade culminates with music and dance performances and a competition to name Junior King and Queen and the prize-winning bands of the parade. Colorful costumes, cutie-pies and high spirits abound.

Sunday, September 2^nd

Free Back-to-School Haircuts for Boys at King Kutz, 55 Ralph Ave., 10AM-#PM. Using proceeds from speaking engagements and his book, “Suited for Success, ” Ty Brown of Brooklyn United Music and Arts Program partners with King Kutz to sponsor 100 free haircuts for boys in Grades Pre-K to Grade 8. Monday, September 3^rd

West Indian-American Day Parade, Eastern Parkway from Schenectady to Grand Army Plaza, 11AM-6PM, FREE. The massive annual moving carnival draws close to 2 million people to celebrate Caribbean heritage, revel in the music, delight in the brilliantly colored costumes and enjoy the plentiful, delicious Caribbean offerings from food vendors. Bands and marchers hail from Trinidad, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Croix, Barbados, Haiti, Belize, Nevis, etc.

BK Distribution of Free Tix for The Gospel at Colonus, Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza Distribution (2 per person) @Noon till they last, but line up early (like 10AM). Ticket vouchers are for the Delacorte Theater, Central Park performance that eve. & must be exchanged for tickets at the box office from 6-7:30pm. Featuring more than 40 powerhouse voices including legends the Blind Boys of Alabama and the Legendary Soul Stirrers, this exuberant, Obie-winning retelling of Sophocles’ classic Oedipus at Colonus has a rousing gospel and blues score.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Brooklyn Borough Hall Rotunda, 209 Joralemon St., 9AM, FREE. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams hosts this third annual ceremony honoring Brooklynites lost that tragic day 16 years ago and to advocate for survivors receiving the necessary resources to combat ongoing physical and emotional repercussions of the attacks and recovery efforts. This year a new banner featuring the names of all 206 Brooklyn residents who lost their lives. The banner will be displayed at the top of the Borough Hall steps through September 11^th.

Nova Frontier Film Festival at The Billie Holiday Theater, 1368 Fulton St., Thru 9/9. Various times, Free on Fri, $10 on Sat & Sun. Enjoy a lineup of compelling films, panels and virtual reality media about and from the African Diaspora, the Middle East and Latin America, presented by RestorationART and the Nova Frontier Film Festival. This year’s festival focuses on themes of immigration, identity and interculturalism with a program of over 22 films (shorts, feature and documentary), a virtual reality experience and panels.
