Jerome Glass in a NY Daily News interview of several years ago about his famous dad, the late
Bernie Gross, founder of Bernie’s Glass Shop & Mirror Shop on Fulton Street in Brooklyn.
“Anything that has to do with glass is my job,” he told a reporter several years ago.
And now Bernie’s son, Jerome, tends his father’s entrepreneurial and family business legacies
with a staff of nearby residents, Violet Urquhart, Trinidad native, and Venezuelan–born Jose
“Everybody who works with Jerome (who is also called Bernie by his customers) is family,” says
Ms. Urquhart, who talked to Our Time Press as Mr. Delgado worked on a glass piece amidst
reams of picture frames, mirrors, tabletops, doors, plaques and more.
Jerome, like his dad, believes in personalized service so much he still uses a 20+-year-old
receipts holder. “He writes out all of his receipts,” says Ms. Urquhart. Despite the latest
advances in technology, he insists the customer signs off on all of Bernie’s Glass requests and
