Mr. Greaves gives a thoughtful reason for the re-election of Councilman Al Vann.

I stand in agreement in celebrating the accomplishments of Al Vann, as he has spearheaded a number of historic initiatives that have benefited the African American community throughout New York State.

Many politicians have contributed to the welfare of their constituents in large and small measure during their time in office. It's what their elected to do.

What might not be appreciated by the author is the reason WHY so many of Councilman Vann's district has signaled an interest in changing representation.

Have you read Councilman Vann's Committee reports?

Have you examined Councilman Vann's voting record on critical legislative measures affecting the majority of his constituents housing (renting, owning, leasing, etc...)?

Has Councilman Vann demonstrated leadership in reforming our deed recording process to eliminate House Theft in Bedford Stuyvesant (it's been going on for far too long)?

Have you seen Councilman Vann demonstrate a clear understanding of the district's prescient, persistent problems?

Mr. Greaves makes a point declaring that WE ARE AT WAR, yet the Front Lines and the list of Casualties appear to be the same from when the Councilman served in the Assembly and have continued during his time in the City Council.

After reading a number of editorials and endorsements by well intended, thoughtful members of the community, I'm always left wondering the following;

Has anyone offering an endorsement of Al Vann ever took the time to learn WHY so many of the district's electorate voted for someone other than him during the Primary?

It's not as simple as has been expressed by this and other editorials and borders on insulting to the many people who do feel left without access to their elected representative.

Relationships aside, its better to learn the reason why than to dismiss the reason as trivial complaints or unnecessary grievances.

It took 30 years to get them to this point.

I wonder why?
